O' Good Cat, We Will Meet Again

One in a series of art shrines I have been working on to honor pets that are no longer with us. This one has a place for you to attach a picture of your cat if you wish. The cat figurine is actually a vintage salt shaker. I added the blue bell to match his eyes, so this piece is titled "Bluebell".

Hello To Fall, Goodbye To The Boogel

Well, yay yay, it is the first day of Fall and I am finding my mind turning seriously to pumpkins, leaves, Halloween, skeletons and mummies. Evidently, others are doing the same since I just sold the art altar I made to the Boogel, pictured above. In case you are curious, a Boogel is a cross between an angel and a Boo. I will miss the Boogel altar, but if I get too lonely I can make a visit anytime to another Boogel who flies over the bar at Poe's Tavern on Sullivan's Island. He's better known as Devil Dude. (pictured below.) He supervises unruly patrons and keeps the spirit of Edgar Allan on tap.

Goats Discover Coffee Altar

An art altar I just finished which pays respect to the honorable goat and his role in the discovery of coffee. You may need to refer back to the post done on Jan. 8 of this year about Kaldi and his frisky goats. I'm waiting on the glue to clear up on the beans before listing it for sale. I might miss this one a little since I do some hard core coffee worship each morning.

April, The Spring Ho

I've never been a huge fan of Spring, being more of a dark, winter soul. I decided to do a gift at Christmas for my friend who loves Spring, thinking it may be good therapy...make me more of a refreshing, Spring oriented person. Well, this is what came out. It's April, the Spring Ho. She's gone to live with Matt. Hope they are having a wonderful Spring.

A Blue Moon Art Altar

A blue moon on New Year's Eve!

I have always been fascinated by Blue Moons and their folkloric mystery. The term "Blue Moon" has been around at least since Shakespeare's day, but I wonder if his world was as confused as we are today as to what one is. The original definition was the third full moon in a season that has four full moons. This all changed in 1946 due to an article in Sky & Telescope magazine in which a writer misinterpreted a page in the Farmer's Almanac. This mistake led to the later, easier definition of second full moon in a month. The occurrence is once every two or three years by either definition, but according to the old, third out of four in a season definition, we will have another one in November of 2010. An interesting tidbit: ANY full moon falling on Halloween is a Blue Moon.

I created the Blue Moon Art Altar pictured above in honor of all that is rare and beautiful. Most of the items used in the altar were previously discarded, many from thrift stores. For example, the arch is made from the handle of a wooden back massager.. you know the kind with wheels that you roll like a car on a needy back. The luna bleu tiles are polymer clay. This altar was sold a few months ago to a nice lady in Maine. I hope she lights it up tonight.
